“A Beloved Celebration” The Wedding Story of Nichelle and Ruben – December 30th, 2011 – Bella Collina, Monteverde, FL

By looking at the series of images below from Nichelle and Ruben’s wedding, you would not believe me if I told you that this was planned in all of the course of 2 weeks. No joke, I was blown away by how impeccable everything went in such a short period of time. It all began with a phone call one afternoon in mid-December. As I answered my phone, I heard the sweetest little voice on the other end (Nichelle), politely inquiring about my services originally for a wedding she and Ruben were planning for sometime in late Spring 2012. I happily spoke to her for a few minutes, answered a few standard preliminary photography questions, then hung up and emailed her my pricing info. About a week later, while doing my routine follow up calls, I dialed Nichelle’s number and with only a couple seconds time, Nichelle promptly answered the phone and almost out of breath, began telling me me how they have learned about her Grandfather having stage 4 terminal cancer with only a few months to live. With this grave news, Nichelle and Ruben, not being able to imagine not having her Grandfather attend their wedding, decided to move everything up to December 30th, just two short weeks away. Ruben, being from Spain was able to fly his Sister and Father over in such short notice, while he and Nichelle additionally handled finding her dress, tuxedo, venue, me, videographer, flowers, invitations, bridesmaid dresses, hair and makeup, etc. Quite a daunting task, but all for the love and importance of having her dear Grandfather there…incredibly moving. This re-paints the reason of why we have weddings. Yes, it’s about two people that love each other, but we fail to remember how equally important it is for the families. This is one of THE most important days in our families lives as well. To witness their daughter, son, sister, brother, cousin, friend, you name it join the lives with the person whom they are claiming that day to love and cherish forever. And to Nichelle, the love for her Grandfather and the respect she has for him paved the way for the stars to align and all of the elements perfectly fall into place to create the setting for a wedding HE can be there to remember forever. Now, I have to say, as photographers and videographers, and I can safely vouch for Mr. Jeffrey Stoner who was also documenting their day with me, that knowing the finality of her Grandfather’s terminal illness instills in us the power to observe the day differently and with a new focus. Sure, we’ll capture the pretty red roses, the gown, rings, etc., but no one can ever imagine the life, emotion, and precious moments unfolding in front of us with every moment we documented. It was not only our job to beautifully document their day, but it was also our responsibility to document the beloved relationship between Nichelle and her sweet Grandfather. It was up to us to provide some of the last important memories of this man’s life. And in trying to wrap my head around something so meaningful and essential, I could feel the lump in my throat grow with the weight of that responsibility. But after a small amount of time and might I add, breathing, the fear quickly dissipated and I began to photograph the beauty of what was unraveling in front of me. I believe in everything happening for a reason, and I believe that Nichelle and Ruben’s wish to have this wedding immediately was granted and the day will be relived and reflected in their hearts as well as her Grandfather’s. xoxo – Abby

December weddings are so beautiful, I’m not sure why that month isn’t more popular for weddings. What better time of year to celebrate your new lives together than with your family and friends and mistletoe? There is a certain sense of warmth and sparkle from twinkling lights and smell of a roaring fire that adds to the overall ambiance to a wedding. This is exactly how Kelly and James’s wedding played out, taking place at the cozy and rustic Dubsdread Golf and Country Club here in Orlando. Wooden rafters, Christmas trees, warm candlelight throughout, and of course, classic Irish music playing in the background as a nod to James’s Irish heritage, all played a part in successfully transforming their wedding into a Winter Wonderland.

The weather had the perfect nip in the air, so fitting for their outdoor ceremony taking place under a huge Oak tree. Kelly and James kept it simple and all about celebrating their love with their family and friends. Meaningful speeches, a beautiful dance dedicated to Kelly’s Father, and lots more dancing and celebration completed their night which ended on that perfect note. Albums are the final word and end product from our Couples’ weddings. From initial concept to final delivery, it is truly a joy collaborating with our newlyweds on what will be the book that tells the story of the beginning of their lives together. Quite a large responsibility I must say…We take pride and find joy in the entire process and LOVE the reactions when they get to see and hold their wedding album. Emily and Chris chose a simple, square album design covered with our exquisite “bomber jacket” premium leather. A perfect mixture of rustic and chic style, tying in all the elements from their wedding. This is going to look beautiful in their home and for many, many years to come…

“Holiday Chic” The Wedding Story of Carly and Wesley – The Ritz-Carlton Orlando – December 18th, 2011

I wrapped up my 2011 with 3 FABULOUS weddings each one so unique from the next. Carly and Wesley’s wedding took place at the exquisite Ritz-Carlton Grand Lakes here in Orlando and took a classic turn on having a wedding during the Holidays. They kept it elegant using white tones and silver accents throughout. Even their desserts were white chocolate everything…all that a girl could ask for. Carly and Wes opted to see each other before hand and what a moment it was. When Carly turned around and saw Wes standing there, I could feel a huge calm come over here as she shed a few tears. It was as if she could now relax now that she was with him. After signing the Ketubah, their traditional Jewish ceremony took place underneath a white gazebo overlooking a lake. The weather was amazing for December, low 70′s and clear as a bell, perfect for their outdoor reception. And what a sight that was! You can see in the images below from the detail shots and Carly’s reaction that the decor was absolutely breath-taking. Thanks to Heather Snively and her team and the gorgeous floral from the talented team at Botanica, the space was transformed into an all-white fairy tale complete with white chiavari chairs and twinkling market lights. Carly and Wes were such a dream to work with, so laid back, but yet knowing exactly what they want at the same time…a great combination. I truly enjoyed documenting their wedding and all of the priceless moments that occurred within. Thanks Carly and Wes for being you and congratulations on one spectacular wedding! xoxo – Abby

French Quarter L’Amore…Jennifer and Tony’s Wedding – New Orleans, Louisiana 11.05.11

There’s nothing like the city of New Orleans…from the sounds of a saxophone player wailing through the alley ways to the infamous beignets at Cafe Du Monde (who one certainly must try once in their life). My visit this time was to photograph the lovely wedding of Jennifer and Tony. Jennifer and I have been friends for quite some time, growing up together in the same town and dancing on our high school dance team…some of those memories I’ll never forget. Now here in New Orleans 12 years later, and now as her wedding photographer, I had the sole responsibility and honor to be the one to document some of the most important memories yet. I know, pretty cool huh? Jennifer and Tony, two very laid back and sweet people did not want pomp and circumstance anywhere near their wedding. Instead, they opted for simple, understated, and intimate. Three elements I find to be at some of the best weddings I’ve photographed. Both ceremony and reception were held at the quaint Cafe Amelie right in the heart of the historic French Quarter. A simple rustic chandelier, minimal floral, and tons of candles was their only choice for decor lending to the feeling of intimacy even more. Jennifer and Tony opted to see each other beforehand, just she and him leaving behind the “grand” walk down the aisle and all the attention that comes with it. Afterwards I hopped in a horse-drawn carriage with the happy couple as I photographed their portraits all along the way to Cafe Amelie. After the beautiful twilight ceremony, Jennifer, Tony, and all of their lovely guests ate, drank, danced, and enjoyed all of the elements that an unforgettable New Orleans always offers. Congratulations Jenn and Tony! Thank you for making me a part of your beautiful wedding.

Leigh and AJ’s wedding + video featured on The Ring Bearer today!

It’s always lovely finding out that one of your weddings has been featured on a wedding website. Leigh and AJ’s March 2011 wedding has since turned the heads of the ladies at The Ring Bearer in Canada and I am thrilled to be re-posting this on our blog. This wedding was filled with warm candlelight, pale pinks, and roses dripping throughout. Deirdre & Joe’s Destination Wedding – Cancun, Mexico – 9.24.11

This wedding season has been filled with many travels near and far and I’m happy to announce, it hasn’t stopped. Lately, my travels took me and my photography pal Cristy Nielsen to Cancun, Mexico for the lovely wedding of sweet Deirdre and Joe. Their wedding weekend was jam packed of festivities all of which kept everyone out till the wee hours of the morning. And sure enough, they bounced back and were right into celebrating with the happy couple. Their wedding and reception was held at Excellence Playa Mujures an amazing 5 star resort in Cancun, Mexico. Not only was this resort aesthetically pleasing to the eye, the service was impeccable, not to mention everything was all inclusive so no one had to worry about bringing their wallet. Ideal when entertaining guests at a destination wedding. Deirdre wore a simple lace Dolce & Gabbana gown, perfectly elegant and light enough for a beach ceremony. Her three bridesmaids were the perfect accompaniment wearing rich purple dresses by Pretty Maids. Joe kept it classic and simple as well wearing a Ermeneglido Zenga suit while his groomsmen wore light purple button downs and white linen pants from Jeremy Argyle NYC. Tropical flowers were placed throughout and deep hues of purple created an overall statement for their reception. The clouds rolled in just as Deirdre and Joe were being introduced and just as they were beginning the first dance, the sky opened up and it began raining. Instead of everyone running for cover, they all remained in their chairs while cheering on Deirdre and Joe to continue in their first dance. Truly one of the most romantic and unforgettable moments I’ve experience while documenting the first dance. As you can see from the images below, the champagne continued pouring and the party kept going. Thank you Deirdre and Joe for an awesome destination wedding…I will never forget Cancun.

Honeymoon in Zurich, Switzerland: Julianne and Phil’s wedding journey continues…

It’s usually the case at the end of a wedding that I am wishing my couples a happy honeymoon and I will see them upon their return. Normally, I am told stories of how they relaxed in Hawaii, hiked in Europe, or explored wine country in Italy, but it’s the greatest experience when I have opportunity to play a role in documenting what I agree to be the best part of the wedding, the honeymoon! Julianne and Phil, realizing the importance of capturing all of these one-of-a-kind events in life, invited me along to photograph a glimpse of their honeymoon beginning in Zurich Switzerland. How can a girl say no? We met up in the beautiful city of Zurich just 2 days after their August 27th wedding here in Winter Park. After a day of travel and acclamation, Julianne, Phil, and I met right in the Old Town District and picked up right where we left off at The Winter Park Farmers Market. Additionally, Julianne brought along her Anne Barge wedding gown provided by Solutions Bridal Orlando, so we could infuse their honeymoon session into a Couture Dress Session as well. Smart thinking Miss Julianne. Needless to say, this now being the third opportunity in 6 months to spend quality time with these two, has been nothing but a joy. Each time I learn more about their interactions and their “isms” toward one another, again providing me even more important knowledge in knowing the art of photographing them. They are not just my “bride and groom” to me, they have become just Jewls and Phil. Two wonderful individuals that brought me along for the ride. Thanks guys for some great memories and more importantly, great images.

Beautiful Mexico…

Just arrived here in Cancun Mexico for the lovely Deirdre and Joe’s wedding this weekend and I am loving the sunsets here! The different shades of my favorite color pink make me happy. I will definitely agree that this is one of the perks of my job…having the opportunity to see and experience all the amazing sights of the world, I am truly one blessed cookie.
