Amongst all the amazing weddings I’ve had the opportunity to photograph this past Fall 2009, I really enjoyed being a part of Valerie and Justin’s. These two people are not unfamiliar with being in front of the camera as they met while pursuing their acting careers here in Orlando. They were referred to me by one of my previous brides, the wonderful Kelly and Rob, which I’m SO happy that they did. Thanks guys! Working with Valerie and Justin is pretty easy considering that they’re um…GORGEOUS!! And not to mention, incredibly nice and down-to-earth. While working on their engagement session, I really saw how “perfect” they really were for each other. We had the chance to hang out and dish about the wedding and all the fun and exciting things happening in their lives. Moving onto wedding day, Heather Ahrens, Amy (my fabulous Sister), and I arrived at The Lake Marty Events Center to begin documenting what was sure to be the most amazing day for Val and Justin. And sure enough, it was and so much more. Every little detail was accounted for from the fantastic direction and planning by Blush by Brandee Gaar, to the breathtaking floral provided by Greenery Productions. The color pallet was precise and nicely incorporated throughout the day. The element that stood out to me with their wedding is how much they put each other on a pedestal. From the thoughtful gifts they gave each other to the emotional last dance with just them in the room, you could easily see the amount of unconditional devotion they had between them. It had me saying in my mind, “see, that’s what it’s all about”. Pure respect, admiration, and undeniable devotion. It’s cool to witness this between two people. I feel like I’m getting a VIP pass to see the most intimate, important moments in people’s lives. Thank you Valerie and Justin for inviting me in to be a part of your wedding. It was beautiful and I know you two will have an amazing life together. xo – Abby A special thanks to the following vendors who made their day perfect: Blush by Brandee Gaar, Greenery Productions, Lake Mary Events Center, Junction 88 Productions, 404 Films, Heather Ahrens Photography, Cut the Cake, Levan’s Catering, and Charles Dawes.

One of the unique things about their wedding that I absolutely loved. Clearing out the whole room and having your last dance together. It really was a perfect ending to their reception.
Hey to all! As I lay in bed sick as a dog, I couldn’t help but not work on my laptop! There’s so much to share and never enough time. Before I shut down for the evening, I wanted to leave you all with a slide show glimpse into Jaimie and Mike’s wedding at The Riverside Inn B&B in Palmetto, FL. Jaimie, Mike, and I all went to high school together so when they chose me to photograph their wedding, I was so excited! A quick thanks to the lovely and talented Shem with Blue Lane Photography for helping in documenting their day! Enjoy, more to come soon. Goodnight! Sniff sniff.
Jaimie - WOW! I love you. These are just amazing, and I don't even remember seeing you around to capture the moments. When I saw the Palmetto Riverside B&B I immediately had a vision of my wedding and picture number 27 on this slideshow was EXACTLY it. Thank you for capturing my dream!!! Thank you Thank you. Can't wait to see the rest.

It was about this time last year that I began communicating with Abbie about her wedding in Scotland. When the wedding that she originally started planning in Florida began to transform into something she wasn’t passionate about, she decided to take a completely different turn. She told me that one day, in her crazy search for venues in Florida, her friend emailed her one of the many forwards we get filled with funny jokes and iconic images to “brighten ones day”. In this email was an image of a castle that sparked her imagination. One thing led to another and Abbie began trying to track down where that image was taken. In her search out of pure curiosity, she found the element that was missing in her planning process. She began to research weddings in Scotland and after much clicking of the mouse, her and John settled on the quaint little town of Dornoch, Scotland to have their wedding. I truly was so excited when Abbie and John chose me to document such a intimate wedding in an absolute gorgeous destination. It has been one of the best experiences that I have taken with me so far in my career. Between a visit to their hometown in Chicago to photograph their engagement session, to traveling halfway across the world, I really feel that I’ve gotten to see all the beautiful things that make up Abbie and John’s relationship. They are meant for each other. With a year to plan, I decided that I wanted to share this experience with my sister Amy. With a wedding guest list of only 40, I knew she would make the perfect assistant! So on December 9th, Amy and I hopped our first out of many flights on our trek to Dornoch. Arriving there was surreal. I felt that I was living in a little snow globe. We were welcomed by the friendly staff at the Dornoch Castle Hotel. It was exactly how one would imagine. The lobby with a huge, roaring fire place, wooden floors, stone walls, and the perfect little bar serving great beer. I was home! There was even a resident castle cat named “Charley”. All he would do is lay by the fireplace. We think it helped with his arthritis. So, inlay a picturesque and perfect setting for a wedding. All that Abbie imagined, and all that this Abby was hoping for! The next three days were purely magical. As family and close friends arrived, everyone, including Amy and I, shared a sense of excitement and closeness. We all ate and drank together, and got to know one another. It was really nice to be so close and apart of their circle. I felt that we were just another friend in this exceptional trip to celebrate their wedding. It was a magical time being able to have a glimpse into the lives of these people, and being able to laugh and share stories. The day after the wedding was great too. Since it gets dark so early there, we didn’t really have much time to capture portraits of Abbie and John during the day. So, the next morning we all met back down in the lobby and set out for two hours to photograph all over Dornoch. Amy and Kate helped with styling and even shot some video. Then they headed back to plan our trip to Edinburgh, Dublin, London, and then Paris. Yes, we had just begun our trip to the UK and France! It was so exciting and so much fun. So many memories were made! Below is the wedding story of Abbie and John from rehearsal to day after session. I hope you all enjoy viewing these as much as I truly have enjoyed capturing them. To Abbie and John, thank you for the amazing opportunity to document your wedding. I will always remember it! xoxo – Abby
Here’s a “Behind-the-Scenes” look into our trip!
May I introduce to you, the beautiful town of Dornoch Scotland…
This is Dornoch around 3pm, yes…that’s in the afternoon! The sun rises late and sets early at around 3:30. I will say, the lighting was always spectacular!
How beautiful is this town? I miss it already!
Across the street from the Castle hotel was the Cathedral where Abbie and John were married. Every old church has to have a graveyard, how fitting is this one? This is exactly how it felt over there. Simply mysterious and enchanting.
Introducing Abbie and John…
Now, I know you’re thinking that they have to be pretty morbid to want to do a portrait in the graveyard, but it was MY idea! I couldn’t resist! I’m such a sucker for foggy graveyards. :)
For the rehearsal, Abbie, John, and their guests took a tour of the famous Glennmorangie Whiskey Distillery. Here’s a shot of Kate, one of the bridesmaids making her way down to the tasting!
More fog.
This is around 3:30pm.
John, the groom getting a whiff of the whiskey brewing…
Needless to say, it was so harsh to the nose.
Everyone huddled around the tour guide, waiting to get to the end for a taste!
The perfect ending to the tour.
Cheers to the happy couple!
A quick pick taken by the bride of Amy, Kate, and me. We look so happy huddled together!
The Dornoch Castle’s signature wine…my fave.
Wedding day and perfectly laid out are Abbie’s fabulous accessories. I absolutely adore the chic fur…
John and the guys on castle grounds dressed in their traditional Scottish Highland Dress. How regal are they?
John.
The dress.
Abbie’s Grandmother and all her lovely grace.
Kate putting on the finishing touches..
One of my favorite portriats of Abbie.
On the way to the Cathedral for the ceremony. Abbie and her family were led by a single bagpiper. I got goosebumps and chills. It was so moving.
This is one of my favorite moments before the ceremony. I’m usually with the bride just before she walks down the aisle. I notice this pure sense of contentment that comes over them. You can see it clearly on Abbie’s face. It’s now real, it is all happening. This makes me love my job.
…and here too.
Pure happiness.
Candlelight throughout transformed this already beautiful cathedral into something truly breathtaking.
Just married! Again, about 20 degrees and 3:30pm. I still can’t get over the time!
The fabulous wedding party!
Another one of my favorite portraits
The bagpiper escorted them back over to the Castle for the reception. Amy and I were ready to get inside and warm up by the fire!
The intimate setting for dinner. A perfect way to keep it all about close family and friends. Abbie did a great job in designing!
Introducing the newlyweds…
Cake!
…and the first dance.
Moving effortlessly…
The lovely Vanessa and Gareth
An impromptu duet with Abbie and her Mother…
…and Abbie’s solo.
One of the most unique details of their wedding were these sky candles. After a few drinks to warm up, we all headed out to the garden to send them off into the sky. It was the perfect ending to the most perfect Scottish Winter wonderland wedding. Everyone made a wish and released the candles. It was such a great memory!
Abbie and John…
We all came in from the cold and were welcomed with homemade hot chocolate…
The next morning.
The cathedral in the background..
Sigh…
There was a dusting of frost over everything.
Abbie..
A lovely pathway..
With just the right amount of light coming through the trees..
Bliss..
Communication is always key in a solid marriage…. :)
Even the spider webs had icicles.
Greetings from Dornoch.
I’m in love.
John tying his shoe…again. :)
Pretty.
We made our way down to the beach by cutting through the Dornoch Golf Course. We felt like we were at the edge of the Earth.
You can almost here the snow crunch in this image.
I am in love with the light in Scotland. This was high noon!
The highest point overlooking the ocean.
Our view from the top of the golf course. A beautiful skyline of Dornoch.
The beach. The water was practially frozen on top of the sand.
A “thank you” to all of their family and friends – Love John + Abbie
debbie gloria smith - Beautiful! I agree, i love the fog too.
Amy Morelli - Abby-- as always these are amazing. It makes me want to annul my marriage and do it again in Scotland with you there photographing of course!! :)
Bob Knapik - Awesome shots Abby!!! I am very impressed as always!
Ron Morelli - I am now late for my meeting with clients. These pictures sucked me in so much that I actually dont care if I'm late. If all wedding photographers had a fraction of your talent you would be in trouble. Thankfully they do not. Clearly all photographers are not created equal.
My favorites are the "in love" and the one I'm labeling "the journey". You might guess it is the one with the back of the newly weds walking off into the vast background.
amazing amazing amazing.
OK...Clients await.
sabrina james - wow abby. these pictures are absolutely breathtaking. what a beautiful wedding, bride and location! you must have been in heaven!! you are truly amazingly talented!! :)
Maria Pecoraro - Abbie and John- What a BEAUTIFUL wedding! I am so so so thrilled for you! The photos came out wonderfully- great job by the photographer :)! I love Abbie's fashion! A million congrats!
Jenn Kalina - Wow, why am I surprised at how amazing these pictures are! Everything you described and even more! Beautiful work Abs!
sandra host - John and Abbie
The Poseys forwarded us your photos. They are the most beautiful wedding pictures I have ever seen..... how could they miss?.... the sentiment, setting, sensational dress, the subjects..... all glorious (superb!). We loved Dornoch from the minute we arrived, years ago, but it never was as beautiful as when it became the backdrop for your wonderful event. Both Bruce and I are so happy for you both. Congratulations!
Happy 2010!!!!!! WOW I have a TON to blog and now begins the blogging process. To start off, I wanted to quickly mention that the fabulous Valerie and Justin (who were married on November 15th – blog post to come), were so graciously featured on “Every Last Detail’s” Blog! Yes, it was featured back on the 18th of December, but to be fair, we were shooting a wedding in Scotland at that time so that’s why it’s taken so long to mention. That post is to come as well! Like I said, LOTS to talk about and share with you all! More to come xo- Abby
Well I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! And yes, the day has finally come where you can now see Amanda and Justin’s full engagement session! They are getting married on March 27th, 2010 and I cannot wait to see what we get with their wedding photos! We really had a great time hanging out and getting creative with all the props they brought. It really allowed us to think more outside of the box image-wise.
Happy Tuesday to all! I’m thrilled to announce that the stunningly gorgeous wedding of Vanessa and Randy’s Coconut Grove wedding is being featured today on the Weddings Unveiled Magazine blog. We thoroughly enjoyed documenting their day and I was IN LOVE with all the fun detail shots. Vanessa looked perfect in her Vera Wang gown and Randy, calm, cool, and collected in his classic tux! To get the full post, please visit the Completely Unveiled Blog to see more!
Laters! – Abby
Here’s a small glimpse into the amazing upcoming post from Amanda and Justin’s fabulous E-Session! It will be a long, but enjoyable post! Goodnight all! xo
While most of you were putting the finishing touches on your Halloween costumes and handing out candy, I had the pleasure of spending my day documenting Kelley and Todd’s wedding! Shem (my fabulous second photographer) and I met up at The Tradewinds Resort in St. Pete beach and prepared to begin our day of capturing all the memories that were to come. We began photographing Kelley and the girls in their room. Kelley’s excitement grew as she put her gown on and got ready to meet Todd for their “first look”. No detail was left out when getting ready. From the tearful moment of her Mother placing Kelley’s necklace on, to her Maid of Honor, Danielle, perfectly arranging her Six Pence in her shoe just as she was about to walk out. Emotions were high as we walked over to the lobby to capture Kelley and Todd seeing each other for the first time. This is always my favorite moment when a bride and groom see each other for the first time. I always feel so privileged to have a front row seat. Shem and I loved all the details at the ceremony and were in place for the start of the ceremony. Despite the crazy heat-wave, guests watch and enjoyed as Kelley and Todd said their vows. After that, the party was on! Starting with their sensational choreographed first dance and then onto the heartfelt speeches. Everyone had an amazing time. As the night cooled off, the party kept going. A big congratulations to the newlyweds! I hope you are enjoying Barbados and many blessings for the years to come! A special thanks to their wonderful planner Georgia Watson for making their day a smooth and enjoyable one!

Happy Friday to all! I’m getting ready to head to my 10 year High School reunion in Sarasota!! I can’t believe it’s been 10 years. I’m getting old.. I wanted to quickly post an image from Kelley and Todd’s amazing wedding in St. Pete from last weekend. More to come and wish me luck this weekend!

This E-session with Lilly and Jason was absolutely brilliant. Because of their living in different places, I ended up having the consultation with only Jason. This was funny seeing as normally its the bride that I work with first, so it was great to finally put a face to a name with Lilly in October for our shoot. Even though it was incredibly hot, we decided to start at Rollins College in Winter Park because of the amazing architecture of the school. Lilly wore her fun red heals and props to Jason for wearing that suit! We had a blast looking for cool doorways and arches to shoot in. After we wrapped up at the College, we headed across the street to Park Ave. Which, rain or shine is one of my favorite local places to shoot. Jason kept the session full of laughter with his incredible wit and it was so fun to get to know Lilly as we gabbed about her dress for the wedding during our clothing change (which sounds absolutely fabulous.) Jason and Lilly are a funny and light-hearted couple and I can totally see why they are so in love. Getting to know the both of them was truly a pleasure and I am so fortunate to get to do their wedding in Apopka next June! Till next time! XOXO abby

Sanjanette Scott - I know Lilly and Jason. and through your photography, you have managed to capture who they really are and what they mean to each other. Tracey Gainor - These pictures are truly amazing. Although I have not yet had the privilege to meet Lilly, the pictures capture a spirit that makes me ecstatic that my dear friend Jason has found his soulmate!!!! I'm pleased to welcome her into my world of loved ones. I love the way the pictures capture Jason's silliness, devotion and generosity of heart. Well done. Blessings to the happy couple. Those sentiments being expressed, I respectfully request that the wedding date be moved to tomorrow - so that I can see more beautiful pictures.
Odel Powell - Simply beautiful
